  • Monster Rating Compilation! (Rune Build included)

    Hi fellow Summoners,
    NEW MONSTERS UPDATED!!!
Guide listed up by Reddit.com on their Summoners Wars Sky Arena Sticky Link as the "New Tier Guide List" All this support from summoners have kept me working on this guide and will try my very best to bring updated information to all summoners! Cheers!!!)

A Monsters rating chart with rune build compile together with pure intention of helping new players.
(When I just started playing this game, I was always unsure if the monster I get from my summons will be strong? Asked around in the chat room for helps, even asked people to look into my town and let me know which monster shall I train without knowing the reason why the rest aren't as popular. After sometime of playing the game, some monster which used to be the favorites was not as strong when moving into late game arena/dungeon, resulting in retraining of new monsters which get very boring(Waste of mana stone, evolve essence, etc). Thus I'm hoping that this chart below will help people as much as possible!)

This table is made up of ideas from Guilds, Chat room and my personal experience.

*All rating are base on Awakened monster potential*
*Rune recommended are more gear toward arena*
*Monsters with a * at the end of their name belong to another tier, was place there for easier reference to their counterpart from other element*
*Rating goes from C- up to S which is the highest rating.*
*A Grade A+ monster from 2 Stars Tier would not lose out in potential to another monster of the same grade from any other Tiers.*
*Rating might be rating, but please do not forget that a 2/3 Stars Tier monster would have the skill max out faster compare to a 4/5 Stars Tier monster, So it is wise and recommended to plan out a balance team.)
*Please do not follow blindly or get angry because you feel that the monster rating of the monsters you are using is wrong, if the monster synergy well with your team combo, do not be dishearten to carry on using them.*

    Rune & Stats explanation
    1) Swift rune, it gave u 25% extra speed(25% of base value, not those +++ in green u have behind it)
-Speed is what determine who start 1st, also, speed determine how fast your attack gauge charge full(If you are fast enough, you might attack 2x before other monsters made their 1st move)

    2) Violent rune give u 20% change to move again, in short, after u attack, you got a 20% to attack again, simple.

    3) Vampire rune give Bloodsucking ability, as the name say it all, life steal, life recovery on hit. Remember dmg from HP% dmg or continuous dmg does not trigger the life steal.

    4) Fatal rune, increase your attack by 30%, simple it also ONLY work on your basic stats(white number, not the ++ Green number) Lets say u got a attack of 500, 30% = 150 extra attack. This 150 extra attack will be added into the ++ Green number making it look like this > 500 + 150

    5) Effect Acc and Effect Res can be explain together, when using skill that apply effect(continuous dmg, lower defend, etc), the chance(%) of applying it is affected by your monster acc%, target res% and skill chance%.

-Rule 1: There will always be a 15% chance of resist effect no matter how much lower is the effect res %.
-Rule 2: If Acc% is higher/equal, Rule 1 will apply.
-Rule 3: If Res% is higher by 15% or more, that % in different will be the chance of resist effect.(It take a Res% higher than Acc% by 100% for the effect to be completely ignored.
-Rule 4: Acc% does not increase skill success %, it only determine if the target will have additional chance of resist.

-Let's take Water Mystic Witch "Toad Poison" as example,(75% change of success at skill level 1)
-Target which the spell is cast at have a effect res of 30%

Example 1) You have 0% extra effect acc.
    ->Chance of success = 75% - (75/100 x (30%-0%) = 22.5%) = 52.5% chance of success.

Example 2) You have 25% extra effect acc.
    Chance of success = (75% - (75/100 x (
    15%) = 11.25%)) = 63.75% chance of success.
*Rule 1 apply as the different in Res% is less than 15%(30-25=5%)

Example 3) You have 50% extra effect acc.
    Chance of success = (75% - (75/100 x (
    15%) = 11.25%)) = 63.75% chance of success.
*Rule 1 apply as the different in Res% is less than 15%(30-50=-20%)

PS: I hope that this example on Effect Acc and Resist will make you people understand, there are really alot of people being confused with what/how this work. Credit: Stynerkz & Puritas:
    http://forum.com2us.com/forum/main-f...and-effect-res

    6) Defend Vs HP, after looking at my charts on the rune section, you might start thinking why I have prefer HP% over Def% for more tank monster, even those being a Defense type monster. Below are the pro's and con's of the 2.
    Defend Health Point
    Pro's Con's Pro's Con's
Reduce dmg taken Dmg reduce have a diminish effect Increased of HP does not have any side effect Take higher dmg from continuous dmg effect
Increase dmg on certain skill of a tank monster Greatly effected by Lower defend skill Received high healing from most healing spell(%) Take higher dmg from enemies MAX hp attack
Very vulnerable to ignore defend attacks Increase dmg on certain skill of a tank monster
Received low healing from most healing spell(%) Able to take more hits

    7) Fatal Vs Rage, taking a Total Basic attack of 1000. With the use of Fatal Rune will give a total of 139,750 dmg after 100 hits, with 85 hits doing 130% dmg and 15 hits (130%x150%=195%) dmg(Basic 15 C.R%)
    5%(20%) 15%(30%) 25%(40%) 35%(50%) 45%(60%) 55%(70%) 65%(80%) 75%(90%) 85%(100%)
    118000 127000 136000 145000 154000 163000 172000 181000 190000
The Table above show the dmg after a total of 100 hits using rage instead. This show that it is only advisable to use Rage over Fatal if you are able to hit atleast an extra 30 C.R% (Break even point at 45%) It will not be getting an easy task reaching 45 C.R%. Total C.R% we will be getting for using 4 blade rune will be (12%+12%+15%) 39%. Not only is 39% not enough to break the dmg limit but it also have a low reliability which make using Rage kinda ugly.
*Fatal Rune is a clear winner over Rage Rune*

Shannon was underrated and wrong runed. Best with despair/focus with 100% accu. best in Giants and in Arena.
Decrease Speed/ Increase glancing hits and with stuns. Despair/Focus Spd/Hp%/Accu%

      @rudestalker
accuracy doesn't involve in despair stun. so 100% acc is useless considering any mon with 0 additional res has 15% res. and she doesn't have any skill requires 100% accuracy. also shannon has only 1 aoe and her 3rd skill is not even an attack type skill. so despair is not as good as compared to swift.

Light bearman runes was totally wrong. Y add crit damage to him? It would be best if you have
Violent/Blade Hp%/Hp%/Hp as the main purpose of this monster is to keep healing and have great amounts of healing to keep you alive. More Hp More Heal

Great compilation, Cydia! I could see where you're coming from in terms of rune build. Mod should sticky this.

    I've some queries though:
    (i) Wouldn't rage rune > fatal rune performs better at higher upgrades? While the 30% is constant, the increment doesn't seem to scale as well as the additional 40% add damage upon crit (less chance though). This is with exception for wind imp.

(ii) Fire Rakshasa being S class? I do own 1, she's awesome in big bosses, but how does her damage fairs, having to stack 3 different rune attributes (acc, speed, attack %)? Despite stacking (acc, attack %, attack %) with swift rune on, her damage isn't devastating (though her decrease attack gauge is certainly useful). Have u tried using violent runes?

Also, Wind Rakshasa seems stronger to me.

(iii) Wind Chimera being S class? Correct me if I'm wrong, the first skill doesn't seem to be working as intended. It provides constant damage instead of damage stack. While its good to stack speed, the 2nd and 3rd skill doesn't complement with each other. I find him more of a tank than a damager.

(iv) Water werewolf stacking HP%? Have u tried using focus?

    (v) Water epikon priest should be ranked S. While the shield has been nerfed, she's still a solo powerhouse - a strong tanker (even against opposite elements) and a decent healer. In PVP arena, she's inferior to fire EP though. There seems to be many occasion where her shield doesn't trigger when being crit, developer should rectify it....bugs....

      i) Your question on Rage Vs Fatal have been update on main post @Rune and Stats Explanation Point 7 in BLUE, please check and hopefully it clear your doubt.

ii) Fire Rakshasa is rated S as her skill debuff is very very good, her recommended rune build is Swift+Focus(Spd/Atk%/Acc%) Increasing her speed add extra dmg to her 1st skill, however, the main reason for increasing her speed was so that she could perform her attack on a more regular basis. Fire Rakshasa is not played as a main dmg dealer but rather as a support attacker with rather good dmg output when her passive trigger and the continuous from her 2nd skill which last for 3 turns.

iii) As you could tell, most of the rune build is coming from an arena point of view, thus what can be better when you are given a monster with a base speed of 110 combine with a high base attack of 801? Furthermore it come with a skill which got buffed up by speed and even more speed after a critical? It is not rare to see a Wind Chimera strike at your units at 1st turn with his aoe skill and immediately follow up doing a OHKO attack on your weakest units with his Squall that is reusable only after 3 turns(even faster with his amazing speed) An amazing speedy damage dealer.

iv) Notice water ww have a base speed of 115? It is not hard to make it the fastest monster in your team(Swift rune 25% speed = 144) with a good lower defend skill and a group healing with speed buff all only with a reusable time of 3-4 turns(which could only mean 2-3 turns for the enemies as your attack gauge recharge way faster. Focus rune was also used to make sure that his lower defend and cancel healing debuff hit the mark as much as possible. A very solid wolf imho.

      v) Water epikon was only rated A- on my old post, and I have decide to up her rating to A+ just to save myself time and trouble to explain(Was intending to rate it a B+ when I 1st put up the guide)... but here goes AGAIN... Water epikon is not strong at all as long as you know the trick/counter to her shield, she in herself is not a good healer, non a good damage dealer. If you take notice, alot of higher lvl are slowly accepting the fact that she is not really good and have stop using her(Just as myself having a max lvl 40 Rina but have already stop using her)

PS: Hope my reply was good enough... so many questions -.-

On the matter of crits not triggering on rinas shield. Crits only proc her shield when the last hit on her was a crit. Multi hit abilities can crit as many times as possible and not proc her shield as long as the last hit isnt a crit. Works the same way in giants dungeon. This is one of the ways in which u can kill rina, being able to get near full dmg crits without her shield getting in the way.

Tyvm, I won't be expecting people to agree with me 100%. However, this rating are not given either without really trying out them myself or have fought against them numerous time. So more or less I would say it's atleast 80% correct, with maybe 20% slightly off.

I prefer leaving it this way, as this guide was intended to help new player and I have arranged them in a way following the monster collection, which will make it easier for new player to find them. As for experience players, I shall be easy and you can always use the Ctrl+F function.

Nice guide will really help me ^^ i have some questions, if someone could help me:
What about runes 1,3 and 5? They have no effect? And what's the easiest way to get runes about 3* in the beggining? Hard mode or Giants B2~B3 floor?

Rune 1 will always be Flat Atk, 3 being Flat Def and 5 being Flat HP.

From my personal experience, I would suggest doing hard mode for 3* rune and hell mode for 4* rune, as you will be able to decide which rune you want and farm at the appropriate stage, thus saving time.

As for Giants farming, I feel that it is a waste of time and energy if you are farming at anywhere below B7, with close to no chance of getting 5/6* rune, even if you get them, it might not be the 1 you need.

  • #14
rather improved ratings, but I do feel that you give S too easily - especially in the 5*, where it feels like you just gave up and handed it out everywhere
(in fact, just by looking at the 4* rankings I can tell which monsters you have) :P

wind dragon looks oddly out of place for something that does 10% hp dmg on a 2 turn cd, with a team cd reset and 24% leader spd skill (although that's probably partly because you've put spd rune on him, when you really want wind dragon going last on your team)

also a number of others like fire oracle that are rated oddly high when they get heavily outshone by the top 4*s

appreciate you continuing to use your brain on these instead of randomly pulling setups out of your ass like a certain other list though!

      1) I have close to 3/4 of all the 4* except a few, which include Fire Vamp, Fire Rakshasa, Phantom Theif Etc all of which is rank S. The only Rank S I'm having in the 4* Tier is only Water Sylph and Wind Joker, so rest assured that this rating system have no element of bias in it.

      2) As for why most 5* are getting rather high rating is because they all come in good basic stats which is already a plus point and unique skill that is very strong when maxed out(Rating base on Max monster potential, that's why i stated at the top that build a balance with lower Tier monster with max skill might be a good way to start)

      3) I've test wind dragon and with his base speed, he was able to hit 2 turns most of the time. Even if he was to start 1st, it will still benefits the team with his cd reset skill use on the start of 2nd turn for another round of whopping combo. The main reason as to why he is rated only a B+ for AD is purely because of the AI, casting his skill reset at the 1st turn most of the time resulting in a waste of skill(Like Wind Warbear Cleanshot) thus the rating of B+ affected his overall rating, pulling it down to a mere A.

      4) As for fire oracle being outshone by some of the top 4*, I will not disagree with this point, as I have mentioned in the main post that even a 2* monster rated A will have the same if not close Max potential if rune correctly and with understanding/usage of skill. However, being outshone by the top 4* or even 3* monster does not mean she is bad, rating is given base on individual performance, but not a comparison of monsters.

Lastly, I really appreciate you sharing of thought and thank you for speaking up so that people will also understand more on the guide. TYVM!!! Cheers!!!

Ahh interesting point about wind dragon
I've been finding brutal to be much better on him, partly because resetting himself into faster cd is amazing, and partly because 2 of my regular attackers are very high speed monsters that dragon will never be faster than :P

Re your 4th point, it doesn't quite make sense to me
For example, going back to fire oracle at S-rank
Despite its base stats it's still far worse than several A-rank monsters in other tiers :P

Hmm I will always prefer swift over violent as I do not like to depend on luck but rather planning.

As for oracle, notice the rune build of Oracle 2x Blade + Focus (Speed/C.R%/Acc%)?
Reason behind the rune build was solely to maximum her 2nd skill effectiveness.

Can I know at which level of Giant are you currently at? If you where anywhere from B7 above, you would have notice that the Giant are starting to do a whopping dmg partly because of their attack buff, also due to their high amount of hp, continuous dmg is 1 of the best choice to be use against them. Now I'm going to give you a monster which is not only able to remove his buff with a nice 80%(highest remove skill basic %) but also changing it into a continuous dmg for 2 turns. Also with a passive that recover average of 30% attack gauge everytime she attack is nice too.

Also, for the same reason, don't you think there are alot of player using buff skill in high elo arena? Won't it be nice to have a monster to turn the tide of that, do nice dmg and at the same time being only able to take a max of 1 debuff, else healing herself?

All the points above get her the rating she truly deserved. Cheers!

The equation was gotten from 1 of the higher level player when I just started the game some time back, I was also 1 of the people asking around in chat room about acc% and res%.

Since you say that it is wrong, I will put it cross out 1st and hopefully we can get the right equation. This guide was put up to help new players, thank you for pointing out the mistake.

So base on your rules of activation, Water 9 tails fox 1st skill with a 10% rate of freeze will freeze the target with 85% each hit as long her acc is higher or equal to the enemies res? Never really notice it being so high tbh.
